Thanks for the favorites list! Been thinking of getting a shuffle hoe as we grow our garden. Our tiller is from the 50's or 60's is from JCPenney's and is 8 HP. Crazy. Crazy enough that I can barely run the thing.

Gabe overheard our farmer when one or two of the cows near our place escaped. Would have made a sailor blush. I believe situations like you just described are why working dogs are so common in NZ.

I could not resist looking for lessons on herding cows. Here are two: one starts out kind of amusing and then takes the strategies used on cows for people - that part is not so good. The second one is geeky. Here are the two links:

<a href="http://firechief.com/mag/firefighting_successful_herding_requires/" rel="nofollow"> Amusing </a>

OMG! Sounds like raising cows is a real learning experience. Sounds like much more than this suburban man is up for at this stage of life. But, it sounds like you did the right things and got some help form your neighboring farmers. I think that's the important thing - to help each other when things go awry. Looking forward to seeing you all next weekend.

The conventional farmer news says it's the slowest planting spring since 2002. If that's the summer I'm thinking of it never hit 90, or maybe did one time. I really hope we're not in for that!

The ground must have been too wet for my peas too- only about 1/3 of them popped up, which is disappointing. Hopefully I'll be able to find some at the market, because we so enjoyed them last year!

I'm seriously starting to wish it would stop raining. This is getting a little ridiculous.

I have a cousin who has raised/shown cows for years. Almost every Christmas she's asking everyone to buy her a cow. :-)
